Eligibility


Eligibility requirements include national criteria mandated by the Beta Alpha Psi international organization as well as more stringent requirements enacted by our chapter. This list is provided for convenience. The eligibility requirements listed in the national and chapter bylaws supersede the information provided here.

Candidacy for Membership

The first semester of official membership in Beta Alpha Psi is for candidacy for induction. After completing all the candidate requirements, candidates are inducted the following semester. Candidates (and members transferring from another chapter) are admitted based on the following criteria:

  • Designated USFSP or USF Sarasota as the home campus;
  • Declared a major in either accounting or finance;
  • Completed a minimum of 63 credit hours;
  • Maintained an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher;
  • Maintained a major GPA of 3.00 or higher;
  • Completed Principles of Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting or Principles of Finance;
  • Completed (or enrolled in) at least one upper-level (3000) course with a grade of “B” or better in: ACG, FIN,or TAX;
  • Have two or more semesters remaining before graduating;
  • Payment of membership dues as determined by the executive committee.

Affiliate Membership

If you have not yet achieved a Junior standing or have not completed the required courses to qualify for Candidacy, this is the option for you. As an affiliate of the Mu Gamma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, you are not yet an official member of the national organization; therefore, you cannot yet place Beta Alpha Psi membership on your resume. However, you will be able to attend all of our meetings and social/service events, gaining a large amount of exposure to all of our associated firms and professional representatives.

  • Designated USFSP or USF Sarasota as the home campus;
  • Declared an interest in either accounting or finance;
  • Maintained an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher;
  • Maintained a major GPA of 3.00 or higher; 
  • Completed Principles of Financial Accounting (accounting majors);
  • Enrolled in Principles of Managerial Accounting or Principles of Finance; 
  • Payment of membership dues as determined by the executive committee.

Exceptions

  • A student who does not have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher may be accepted if the GPA for the last 30 credit hours is 3.25 or greater.
  • Graduate students may be accepted having a stated interested in accounting or finance in lieu of declaring a major.
